Licensing & Compliance – Victoria Police (Private Security)
Submit your application through the official Victoria Police Licensing Portal. Create an account, choose your licence category (e.g., Security Officer, Crowd Controller, Investigator, Armed Guard) and follow the prompts. Have your USI, ID, qualification statements, and supporting documents ready.
Authority types include (but aren’t limited to) Security Officer (Unarmed), Crowd Controller, Control Room Operator, Bodyguard, Armed Guard, and Private Investigator. Eligibility and competency requirements are listed on the Victoria Police – Private Security eligibility page. Our courses (e.g., Certificate II/III in Security Operations, Investigative Services, and Firearms Re-qualification) are aligned to help meet these competency needs in Victoria.
Yes—most new private security licence applicants in Victoria require fingerprinting. Book your appointment via the Victoria Police Fingerprint Bookings portal. Bring valid ID and your application reference if requested.
Common items include: valid photo ID, USI, Statement of Attainment/qualification aligned to your authority type, passport-style photo (if requested), national police check consent, and any additional evidence required by VIC Police. Always follow the latest checklist inside the Licensing Portal.
Book fingerprinting after you’ve started/submitted your online application so your details match and you can reference your application as needed. Check your portal messages and email for timing instructions from Victoria Police.
Processing times vary depending on demand, completeness of documents, and clearances. You generally cannot perform licenced duties until your licence is approved and issued. Monitor your status in the Licensing Portal.
Possibly. If you hold equivalent Australian units, you may be eligible for Credit Transfer; significant experience can be assessed via RPL. For licensing, Victoria Police determines eligibility and required competencies—see eligibility & competencies. We can help map your evidence to VIC requirements.
Roles like Security Officer and Crowd Controller are physically active (standing, patrolling, incident response). Applicants must meet fit-and-proper person criteria and LLN standards relevant to the job and training. Always check the specific authority requirements via the Victoria Police site.
Use the Licensing Portal to manage changes (e.g., name/address updates, additional authorities). You may need to upload new competencies/units and pay additional fees, then await approval from Victoria Police.
Yes. Tell us your target authority (e.g., Security Officer, Crowd Controller, Investigator, Armed Guard) and where you plan to work (Melbourne, Geelong or regional Victoria). We’ll map a training plan and advise on evidence you’ll likely need for the licensing process. Contact central@nsta.edu.au or call 03 9328 7337.
